During a Design Sprint we develop a design concept for a website or app in just one week. In that same week we also build a working prototype and we test it with real users for direct feedback.
To develop new design concepts we like to use the successful process of the Design Sprint. This method was developed by Google Ventures to quickly develop new products or to solve complex problems. Besides it being a super effective process to create a fitting and tested design concept, it is also an inspiring week for the whole team.

A Design Sprint takes a maximum of five days and (preferably) runs from Monday until Friday. During this week we use various design thinking tools, sticking to the tight schedule of the process. Because the process and the tools are set, we can focus on the solution with our whole team. This way we work in an effective – and especially a fun – manner towards the final result.
Every day starts at 10 AM and ends at 5 PM, with a good lunch from 1 to 2 PM. We plan each sprint slightly differently, so that it fits the specific challenge and the agendas of the stakeholders. However, the different phases that we go through during one of these weeks is essentially based on the same schedule. Please find an example of a schedule below.
"I had never thought we’d be able to create such a cool concept, and be able to test it, in just five days!"
During every Design Sprint we go through five phases, usually meaning one phase a day. We change the program slightly per project, so that we can go through the phases as efficiently as possible.
The result of this process is a detailed design concept, including feedback from users and the most important stakeholders. The concept, plus the feedback, forms the base for the production of the design.
“The core process of every design sprint is the same, but we always take the wishes and agendas of the stakeholders into account.”
A Sprint team consists of five to eight people, and is partly formed by Qikker, and partly by the client.
The roles that are fulfilled by Qikker are the facilitator, creative director, user experience and visual designer. A business, marketing and/or customer expert will be added to the team by the client. Also, someone in the team will fulfill the role of ‘decider.’ The ‘decider’ is the one who is responsible for the development of the website or app, client side (the Product Owner).
Independently of the Sprint team we also involve other people throughout the duration of the week. For example, think of in house or third party experts, test users from the target audience, and if necessary other important stakeholders (the managing board, for example). This way we ensure that as much as possible relevant knowledge is processed in the design concept!
